Detailed infertility treatment

Infertility is becoming an increasingly common diagnosis worldwide. There are many factors that can have a negative impact on a couple’s fertility, and the causes can roughly be categorized as male, female, common, unknown and idiopathic. In all developed countries, an additional problem is the so-called delayed motherhood, i.e. planning of the first pregnancy after 35 or even 40 years of age. Since the female body is best equipped for pregnancy around the age of 26, it comes as no surprise that advanced childbearing age brings along more frequent cases of less treatable causes of infertility. Scientific research has further shown that modern contemporary lifestyle, coupled with unhealthy diet and exposure to toxins has more negative effects on male that female fertility.

It should be emphasized that all professional medical associations worldwide recommend infertility to be treated by a sub-specialists in human reproduction whenever they are available.  Gynecologists who are not sub-specialized in this field can treat patients only in the initial stages, until test results reveal abnormalities.

Sub-specialist analysis and written medical report

Couples who are battling infertility often go through several years of treatment at various institutions at home and abroad. They usually present substantial medical documentation at their first consultation appointment. A detailed analysis of previous medical reports requires high concentration and sub-specialist clinical experience in human reproduction. This process requires time and patience. A sub-specialist analysis is completed by a detailed written medical report with all recent recommendations and a treatment plan.

Ultrasound tubal patency assesment

Ultrasound tubal patency assessment is one of the basic diagnostic procedures in the treatment of infertile couples, and it can often determine the entire course of the treatment. This examination is usually recommended to younger couples who have not been able to conceive over a longer period of time, especially if the semen analysis has shown no obstacles for pregnancy on the man’s part. Indications for this examination include visible Fallopian tubes on an ultrasound scan, as well as previously confirmed infections of the female genital tract. In contrast to X-ray tubal patency assessment (HSG), this method does not expose the patient to radiation, and examination results are available instantly.

Natural family planning methods

Assistant Professor Luetić has completed multiple courses on natural fertility, and has many years of successful sub-specialist experience in treating infertile couples with these methods. Natural infertility treatment is a set of noninvasive methods, individually designed for every couple, where all the possible reasons for infertility are thoroughly researched and individually treated. These methods are commonly applied with couples who are opposed to conventional medically assisted reproduction, or where the predominant reason for infertility lies in the polycystic ovary syndrome.

It should be emphasized that infertility treatments with noninvasive and restorative methods can sometimes last over a year, so the couples who opt for this approach should arm themselves with some patience.

Minimal ovarian stimulation and cycle monitoring

Almost every infertility treatment starts with ultrasound monitoring of the menstrual cycle and timed intercourse. If the patient does not have adequate ovulation, it can be stimulated in several ways. It should be emphasized that ovarian stimulation requires regular ultrasound checkups in order to avoid multiple pregnancies or hyperstimulation syndrome. All leading OB/GYN associations recommend ovarian stimulations to be supervised by reproductive health specialists, since they have the experience and expertise in preventing possible complications.
